Homebound Services

Books Delivered the Homebound

LIBRARY TO YOUR DOOR is a program designed to reach those in our community who are unable to visit the Library due to chronic health issues.  The program provides postal delivery of books to persons whose physical needs require them to stay at home.

Anyone who is eligible for a Plainview-Old Bethpage Public Library card and who cannot visit the Library due to illness or disability qualifies for this program.

To enroll in the program, call the Community Service office for an application at 516 938-0084.  Once the application has been completed and received, the Library will send a package of up to three books each month based on your indicated preferences and/or specific requests.  To return the books, place them back in the original envelope and follow the instructions for leaving the envelope for your mail carrier.

Help for Homebound Senior Citizens (ages 60 plus)

The Plainview-Old Bethpage community is fortunate to have a program call Plainview-Old Bethpage Cares. This program provides assistance to seniors who need help in order to remain in their own homes. Trained volunteers are available to drive residents to local medical appointments, do grocery shopping and local errands and make small repairs. The program also provides free in-home nursing and social work assessments to seniors registered with the program. They are housed at the Mid Island Y and you can reach them by calling 516-822-3535 X 385
